The referee felt a red card was in order, 3 minutes into the game, when Charly Tombuer put in a rough tackle. After 3 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Genk! When Bernt Cesters fell near the penalty area in the 8th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Genk's protests and gave Bernt Cesters a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Genk getting a freekick after 8 minutes play. Bernt Cesters hit a great ball. The audience was convinced that Myroslav Akymenko's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Sergio Coomans was relentless in the 10th minute of the game. Matviy Rudnyak kicked well hit freekick during the 13th minute of the match. In the 20thth minute of the game Siebe Dejonghe who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but FC Ruh Lviv's Andriy Trubin was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Sergio Coomans stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Danylo Bandera's shot from short distance in the 26th minute. 27 minutes into the match, Genk's Siebe Dejonghe sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Andriy Trubin narrowly saved just below the crossbar. With a little luck, FC Ruh Lviv's Andriy Trubin got control of the ball when Siebe Dejonghe tried to sneak it across the goal line. 35 minutes into the match, FC Ruh Lviv's goal looked a bit too open when Bernt Cesters came free, but Andriy Trubin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Genk were awarded a corner in the 36th minute after FC Ruh Lviv's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Martial Van Meel took the corner. After taking down the ball on Genk's corner Martial Van Meel fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Andriy Trubin quite easily take care of the ball. 38 minutes into the match, FC Ruh Lviv's goalkeeper Andriy Trubin had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Siebe Dejonghe. Genk were awarded a corner in the 40th minute after FC Ruh Lviv's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Martial Van Meel took the corner. The corner went over the outstretched arms of FC Ruh Lviv's goalie and right to Tibau Van Laer. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. FC Ruh Lviv's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. The supporters of Genk booed when FC Ruh Lviv was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. Illja Klochko didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 42nd minute of the match Martial Van Meel sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Andriy Trubin skillfully saved the ball. In the 44thth minute of the game Artur Lytvynchuk who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Genk's Sergio Coomans was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Sergio Coomans showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Myroslav Akymenko in the 47th minute of the match.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Myroslav Akymenko stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Myroslav Akymenko did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 0-3 to the left of a surprised Sergio Coomans 52 minutes into the match. The supporters of FC Ruh Lviv booed when Genk was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 58 match minutes in a wonderful position. Bernt Cesters didn't get a good kick on the ball. Bernt Cesters hit a great freekick 61 minutes into the match. Sergio Coomans showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Myroslav Akymenko, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. Ferdinand Van den Inde kicked well hit freekick during the 68th minute of the match. 69 minutes into the game, Myroslav Akymenko cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-4. Sergio Coomans was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Svyatoslav Krutyvus hit a great freekick 75 minutes into the match. When Siebe Dejonghe came up free with the goalie in the 77th minute, the Genk fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Siebe Dejonghe couldn't finish the play. Siebe Dejonghe sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Siebe Dejonghe in the 90th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Andriy Trubin prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Pavlo Paraschiy during the 90th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, FC Ruh Lviv's Pavlo Paraschiy got a free kick in the 91st minute. After some careless play in the Genk defense, Danylo Bandera kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Sergio Coomans. The Genk fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Sergio Coomans should have stopped the shot. FC Ruh Lviv's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
