The supporters of Flamengo FC booed when Vanderslaike FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 36 match minutes in a wonderful position. Naldo Fonseca didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Flamengo FC's zone, Naldo Fonseca stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Serginho Azevedo came out of the goal and Naldo Fonseca tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Serginho Azevedo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from José Lopes, who was totally free with the ball in the 54th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Arlindo Leão in the 56th minute of play forced Vanderslaike FC's goalkeeper Anier Sayvion to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 57th match minute, Vanderslaike FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Umberto Soares to maneuver through the defense. 60 minutes into the match, Flamengo FC's goalkeeper Serginho Azevedo had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Naldo Fonseca. In the 83rd minute, Vanderslaike FC's Naldo Fonseca ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Serginho Azevedo. Serginho Azevedo yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-1. Naldo Fonseca sent away a hard shot on goal in the 88th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Vanderslaike FC were delighted with the way they had won the match. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over Flamengo FC's much stronger midfield.
