In the 20th minute, Ricardinho Batista hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 22 minutes into the game, INTER FC's Emerson Cruz nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Dida Braga made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-3. Hortêncio Linhares scored 0-4 in the 24th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Dida Braga, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. When Hortêncio Linhares fell near the penalty area in the 29th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored INTER FC's protests and gave Hortêncio Linhares a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, INTER FC's Hortêncio Linhares got a free kick in the 30th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hortêncio Linhares in the 33rd minute of play forced O MOTIVO ⚽'s goalkeeper Dida Braga to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Mandi Oca charged in rather forcefully in the 81st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Mandi Oca the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of O MOTIVO ⚽ booed when INTER FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 81 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mandi Oca didn't get a good kick on the ball. Basílio Maranhense showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kaká da Silva, who was totally free with the ball in the 85th minute. In the 94th minute of the match Kaká da Silva sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Basílio Maranhense skillfully saved the ball. A sloppy throw-in by Domingos Orange in the 97th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by O MOTIVO ⚽'s Wágner Mota. In the 98th minute Kaká da Silva shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Basílio Maranhense saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The INTER FC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing INTER FC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
