Carlos Alberto Simão started the match with the kick off. After 7 minutes, Nuno Laguna made it 0-1 with a short kick to the right side. 20 DE SETEMBRO's Hélder de Queiroz tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. 9 minutes into the match, 20 DE SETEMBRO's goal looked a bit too open when Nilmar do Nascimento came free, but Hélder de Queiroz reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nilmar do Nascimento in the 11th minute of play forced 20 DE SETEMBRO's goalkeeper Hélder de Queiroz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, SRP-Laguna's Leonel Queirós got a free kick in the 18th minute. 20 minutes into the match, Clóvis Corrêa notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of SRP-Laguna's Faustão Custódio. Faustão Custódio was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Hélder de Queiroz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Carlos Augusto de Moraes, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 33 minutes into the game, Ediberto Amorim was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. SRP-Laguna's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave 20 DE SETEMBRO the free kick. Cacá Souto hit a great freekick 35 minutes into the match. After 38 minutes, Nilmar do Nascimento made it 1-2 with a short kick to the right side. 20 DE SETEMBRO's Hélder de Queiroz tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. 42 minutes into the match, Carlos Augusto de Moraes had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Hélder de Queiroz. 20 DE SETEMBRO's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Carlos Augusto de Moraes was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-3. In the 45th match minute, 20 DE SETEMBRO was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Claudinei de Andrade to maneuver through the defense. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-3.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Válter Neto made a kick off. After a rather tough play, 20 DE SETEMBRO's Luís Neiva got a free kick in the 51st minute. In the 67th minute, Claudinei de Andrade hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Clóvis Corrêa in the 70th minute of play forced SRP-Laguna's goalkeeper Faustão Custódio to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Nuno Laguna lost his temper 72 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. Nuno Laguna kicked well hit freekick during the 72nd minute of the match. After having played for 81 minutes, Flávio Montenegro managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. SRP-Laguna's supporters crossed their fingers, but Flávio Montenegro was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. A collision led to 20 DE SETEMBRO getting a freekick after 88 minutes play. Mário Alvarenga hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in 20 DE SETEMBRO's zone, Carlos Augusto de Moraes stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Hélder de Queiroz came out of the goal and Carlos Augusto de Moraes tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The 20 DE SETEMBRO supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching SRP-Laguna's performance. The match ended with a win for SRP-Laguna.
