The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Raul Cordarells short, quick shot in the 5thth minute got Danilo Frascuelo to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. After 7 minutes, Leandro Gabirel mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Villa Mitre and the NEWELL´S OLD BOYS players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 7th match minute, Villa Mitre was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Leandro Gabirel to maneuver through the defense. When Narciso Fresco fell near the penalty area in the 12th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's protests and gave Narciso Fresco a yellow card for diving instead. Narciso Fresco hit a great freekick 12 minutes into the match. 19 minutes into the game, Narciso Fresco cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Roman Montez was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Narciso Fresco got his second yellow card in the match during the 28th minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. Narciso Fresco kicked well hit freekick during the 29th minute of the match. Erasmo Fernendo scored 0-2 in the 38th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Roman Montez, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 41st match minute, Villa Mitre was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Augusto Gaitan to maneuver through the defense. 43 minutes into the game, Erasmo Fernendo cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-3. Roman Montez was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. The Villa Mitre players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. NEWELL´S OLD BOYS were winning 0-3.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Raul Cordarell stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Erasmo Fernendo struck a weak shot in the 57th minute. Roman Montez didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for NEWELL´S OLD BOYS. A collision led to NEWELL´S OLD BOYS getting a freekick after 60 minutes play. Mario Uhin hit a great ball. Danilo Frascuelo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Astor Shepherd, who was totally free with the ball in the 61st minute. The Villa Mitre fans' excitement grew in the 62nd match minute when Villa Mitre's Raul Cordarell looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-3 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Raul Cordarell in the 67th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Danilo Frascuelo saved NEWELL´S OLD BOYS from getting behind. A collision led to NEWELL´S OLD BOYS getting a freekick after 69 minutes play. Mario Uhin hit a great ball. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Raul Cordarell in the 71st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Danilo Frascuelo prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 72nd match minute, Villa Mitre was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Leandro Gabirel to maneuver through the defense. The NEWELL´S OLD BOYS fans' excitement grew in the 73rd match minute when NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Erasmo Fernendo looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-4 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Erasmo Fernendo let the left foot speak when in front of goal in the 77th minute shot 1-5 at rihgt post. Erasmo Fernendo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 84th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After 85 played minutes NEWELL´S OLD BOYS got a freekick which was hit by Amancio Magdaleno. In the 89th minute, Erasmo Fernendo ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Roman Montez was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-6.
