The referee ignored Club Atlético Atlanta's protests and gave Pedro Rojelio a yellow card for diving instead. Madison's Faustino Avellaneda got a good chance for a goal in the 11th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Club Atlético Atlanta's Carlos Germano played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Humberto Eliu in the 14th minute of play. Madison's Hernan Uzuri was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Carlos Germano in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. 24 minutes in the game, the ball went up into the seats when Madison's Benito Naldo fired away a shot that was just a little bit too high. He walked away shaking his head. 30 minutes into the match, Club Atlético Atlanta's goal looked a bit too open when Humberto Eliu came free, but Carlos Germano reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 35th minute Humberto Eliu shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Carlos Germano saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Thanks to some nice moves Lázaro Cuartio could shoot a difficult shot in the 37th minute, which Severiano Rafe however easily saved by the left post. After 43 played minutes Club Atlético Atlanta got a freekick which was hit by Lázaro Cuartio. The supporters of Madison booed when Club Atlético Atlanta was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eustaquio Jaizki didn't get a good kick on the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Domingo Vedillo during the 47th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card.
