The supporters of Diablos Rojos booed when Internacional was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Irrintzi Abel didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Diablos Rojos were furious when Manni Villa was red carded, 51 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. Diablos Rojos:s Celestino Villamañan showed great skill when he stopped Lawrence Abechuco:s penalty. Celestino Villamañan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Quilo Abalos, who was totally free with the ball in the 56th minute. Manuelo Abarca received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 62nd minute. Celestino Villamañan tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Diablos Rojos's Vinicio Echague got a good chance for a goal in the 71st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Manuelo Abarca hit a great freekick 78 minutes into the match. Celestino Villamañan made a fantastic save in the 84th minute, when Rocendo Abar sent off a good shot on target. An unexpectedly hard shot by Robinho de Salles in the 85th minute of play forced Internacional's goalkeeper Ourente Abello to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
