Leonidas Barrera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cory Kirkland in the 7th minute of play. In the 11th minute, André-Pierre Gignac made a precise shot to the right of Martin Markusson. New England Minas's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-0. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by José Amaya during the 14th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Buenaventura FC getting a freekick after 18 minutes play. Julio Lozano was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 44 minutes into the match. The supporters of New England Minas booed when Buenaventura FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Julio Lozano didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 46th minute, Domingo Esparza got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Toro Martínez stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After a defensive mix-up in Buenaventura FC's zone, Mete Ferro stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Leonidas Barrera came out of the goal and Mete Ferro tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Martin Markusson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Miguel Urane in the 61st minute of play. Mete Ferro scored 1-4 in the 62nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Leonidas Barrera, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. When New England Minas's Mete Ferro in the 67th minute got a chance for a shot 67th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. In the 71stth minute of the game Mete Ferro who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Buenaventura FC's Leonidas Barrera was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 72nd match minute, Buenaventura FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Toro Martínez to maneuver through the defense. Buenaventura FC's Leonidas Barrera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mete Ferro in the 73rd minute of play. Mete Ferro showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-6. Mete Ferro might have been able to make a better finish in the 94th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Leonidas Barrera. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Mete Ferro ran back to his position shaking his head. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mete Ferro in the 94th minute of play forced Buenaventura FC's goalkeeper Leonidas Barrera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The Buenaventura FC supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching New England Minas's performance. The match ended with a win for New England Minas.
