UFC STEAUA's Ioan Oțeteleșanu proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 10th minute of the match, managed to save UFC STEAUA from getting a goal against them. Dino Zoff made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Costică Mangra in the 11th minute of play. After 12 played minutes UFC STEAUA got a freekick which was hit by Şamil Darcan. 18 minutes into the game, UFC STEAUA's Matei Gâlcă nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Dino Zoff made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-2. In the 22nd minute Matei Gâlcă shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dino Zoff saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Vintilă Hălmăgeanu's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ioan Oțeteleșanu read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 27th minute of play. After 29 minutes, Vintilă Hălmăgeanu made it 1-2 with a short kick to the right side. UFC STEAUA's Ioan Oțeteleșanu tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. David Ologu might have been able to make a better finish in the 37th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Ioan Oțeteleșanu. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. David Ologu ran back to his position shaking his head. The attack was good, but when Vintilă Hălmăgeanu in the 38th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. In the 39th minute, Iosif Călin hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 40th minute, Bobby Fischer fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Ioan Oțeteleșanu, passed just outside the right post. After some fancy dribbling in the 46th minute, David Ologu managed to get in a good position for a shot. Cormoranii -MM-'s supporters rose to their feet, but David Ologu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ioan Oțeteleșanu breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Therkild Prendorf was the one to do the kick off. In the 54th minute, Vintilă Hălmăgeanu ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ioan Oțeteleșanu was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-3. Cormoranii -MM-'s Dino Zoff proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 80th minute of the match, managed to save Cormoranii -MM- from getting a goal against them.
