Frido Stumpf sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Konstantin Hirte fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Uwe Ziege having to interfere. The supporters of Give Peace a Chance booed when Rot-Weiss-Essen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 34 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hjalmar Blumentritt didn't get a good kick on the ball. The long shot by Lennie Langhammer in the 34th minute really tested Uwe Ziege's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Erdem Kazım made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sascha Andre Rennert in the 39th minute of play. Ivo Claus kicked well hit freekick during the 41st minute of the match. When Ivo Claus fell near the penalty area in the 47th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Rot-Weiss-Essen's protests and gave Ivo Claus a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Rot-Weiss-Essen getting a freekick after 48 minutes play. Ivo Claus hit a great ball. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. August Pfahl struck a weak shot in the 70th minute. Uwe Ziege didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Give Peace a Chance.
