After a defensive mix-up in Atletico de Madrid's zone, Arthur Rannou stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nikolas Karkamanis came out of the goal and Arthur Rannou tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After some careless play in the Atletico de Madrid defense, Arthur Rannou kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Nikolas Karkamanis. The Atletico de Madrid fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Nikolas Karkamanis should have stopped the shot. Nikolas Karkamanis took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Arthur Rannou, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 42nd minute Arthur Rannou shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nikolas Karkamanis saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Arthur Rannou blasted a shot towards the goal in the 74th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Nikolas Karkamanis having to make a save. An unexpectedly hard shot by Charles-Emmanuel Castelli in the 77th minute of play forced Atletico de Madrid's goalkeeper Nikolas Karkamanis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
