An unexpectedly hard shot by Blaise Bergkamp in the 30th minute of play forced Olympiacos FC's goalkeeper Eustratios Vertsotis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Olympiacos FC booed when ꉓꍏꋪꉣꂦꀸꋪꂦꂵꂦ was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Blaise Bergkamp didn't get a good kick on the ball. A collision led to ꉓꍏꋪꉣꂦꀸꋪꂦꂵꂦ getting a freekick after 35 minutes play. Richard Laws hit a great ball. Eustratios Vertsotis showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Santa Clausius, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. Eustratios Vertsotis was a little too slow when Clarence Makélélé got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 40th minute. The score was now 4-0. After 43 played minutes ꉓꍏꋪꉣꂦꀸꋪꂦꂵꂦ got a freekick which was hit by Clarence Makélélé. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 4-1 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Bruno Lenzi was the one to do the kick off. 51 minutes into the match, Bruno Lenzi had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Eustratios Vertsotis. Olympiacos FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Bruno Lenzi was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 5-1. 54 minutes into the game, Bruno Lenzi cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 6-1. Eustratios Vertsotis was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. If Santa Clausius had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 56th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 58th minute, Bruno Lenzi ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Eustratios Vertsotis was frozen by the shot and now it was 7-1. Eustratios Vertsotis made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bruno Lenzi in the 61st minute of play. Bruno Lenzi recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 63rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Grigoris Plexioudas hit a great freekick 64 minutes into the match. Eustratios Vertsotis took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Santa Clausius, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Bruno Lenzi fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Eustratios Vertsotis having to interfere. In the 69th minute, ꉓꍏꋪꉣꂦꀸꋪꂦꂵꂦ's Richard Laws seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Richard Laws the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of ꉓꍏꋪꉣꂦꀸꋪꂦꂵꂦ protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Richard Laws had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. An unexpected shot in the 71st minute by Dimitris Koudas got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. In the 78th minute, Santa Clausius left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The ꉓꍏꋪꉣꂦꀸꋪꂦꂵꂦ fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 8-1. If Markos Kareklopoulos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. When Dimitris Koudas fell near the penalty area in the 96th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Olympiacos FC's protests and gave Dimitris Koudas a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Olympiacos FC getting a freekick after 96 minutes play. Dimitris Koudas hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Clarence Makélélé in the 98th minute of play forced Olympiacos FC's goalkeeper Eustratios Vertsotis to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Clarence Makélélé took the ball and in the 98 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Eustratios Vertsotis. Eustratios Vertsotis dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 9-1. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. ꉓꍏꋪꉣꂦꀸꋪꂦꂵꂦ had played much better football throughout.
