The supporters of Grêmio FBPA booed when 27 de Mayo was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. José Vítor Pinheiro didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 17 played minutes 27 de Mayo got a freekick which was hit by Adhemar Furlan. After a defensive mix-up in 27 de Mayo's zone, Edu Zonta stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Eduardo de Souza came out of the goal and Edu Zonta tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Grêmio FBPA's Edu Zonta was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 22nd play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. 25 minutes into the match, Ulisses Prestes notched a goal, 3-0, to the right of 27 de Mayo's Eduardo de Souza. Eduardo de Souza was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. 27 de Mayo's defense didn't have a chance, in the 28th minute, when Edu Zonta scored to the left of an out of position Eduardo de Souza, making the score, 4-0. Joélson Guimarães's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Eduardo de Souza read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 33rd minute of play. In the 35th minute, Gerson Siqueira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Edu Zonta received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Eduardo de Souza tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Edu Zonta had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 42nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The audience was convinced that Joélson Guimarães's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Eduardo de Souza was relentless in the 44th minute of the game. Ronaldo Ramos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Chicão Borges, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 47 minutes into the game, one of Grêmio FBPA:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty.

The wind increased when Chicão Borges made the kick off in the second half. Eduardo de Souza made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Edu Zonta in the 54th minute of play. When Grêmio FBPA's Marcelinho Meireles in the 55th minute got a chance for a shot 55th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie.
