The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 8th minute, Rafael Godoi hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Noroeste Paulista's Cláudio Taffarel proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 10th minute of the match, managed to save Noroeste Paulista from getting a goal against them. In the 13th minute, Wilton de Amaral ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Cláudio Taffarel was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. 15 minutes into the match, Geovânio Quirino had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Elano Travassos. Karaboudjan's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Geovânio Quirino was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. Cláudio Taffarel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Wilton de Amaral in the 19th minute of play. Refik Cumhur came free with the goalkeeper in the 24th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Cláudio Taffarel could save by the left post. Elano Travassos came out of the goal in the 29th minute to try and stop a shot by Noroeste Paulista's João Augusto Azevedo. But to his dismay, João Augusto Azevedo quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-2. Cláudio Taffarel made an important save on a dangerous shot by Evaristo Tolino in the 33rd minute. In the 33rd minute Wilton de Amaral shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cláudio Taffarel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Noroeste Paulista's Cláudio Taffarel proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 36th minute of the match, managed to save Noroeste Paulista from getting a goal against them. With a little luck, Noroeste Paulista's Cláudio Taffarel got control of the ball when Evaristo Tolino tried to sneak it across the goal line. With an all-out effort, Karaboudjan's Cláudio Taffarel threw himself towards the right post 40 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Mateus Velloso, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. 41 minutes into the match, Noroeste Paulista's goal looked a bit too open when Wilton de Amaral came free, but Cláudio Taffarel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

The Karaboudjan fans' excitement grew in the 58th match minute when Karaboudjan's Filomeno Nicholas looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 2-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. Cláudio Taffarel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Wilton de Amaral in the 64th minute of the match. In the 66th match minute, Karaboudjan was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Almir da Fonseca to maneuver through the defense. 67 minutes into the match, Noroeste Paulista's João Augusto Azevedo broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Karaboudjan's Elano Travassos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Raimundo Reis in the 74th minute of play. In the 74th minute, Aílton Simões hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Noroeste Paulista made a substitution. Franklin Vander replaced Geovânio Quirino. Noroeste Paulista made a substitution. Raí Custódio replaced Raimundo Reis. Cauã Borges hit a great freekick 80 minutes into the match. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Vitório Paranaense during the 81st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Karaboudjan booed when Noroeste Paulista was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 81 match minutes in a wonderful position. Vitório Paranaense didn't get a good kick on the ball.
