The audience thought a goal was coming when Flavinho Braga got free with Oscar Saldanha in the 27th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Dadá Britto charged in rather forcefully in the 30th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Dadá Britto the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 33 played minutes Bucéfalo FC got a freekick which was hit by Flavinho Braga. Pedro Luís Montenegro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kléber Queirós in the 35th minute of play. 37 minutes into the match, Bucéfalo FC's goal looked a bit too open when Kléber Queirós came free, but Pedro Luís Montenegro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Oscar Saldanha made a fantastic save in the 43rd minute, when Mazinho Damião sent off a good shot on target. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Alexsandro Britto made a kick off. 51 minutes into the match, Bucéfalo FC's goalkeeper Pedro Luís Montenegro had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Kléber Queirós. After some careless play in the Squadra Demarchi defense, Mazinho Damião kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Oscar Saldanha. The Squadra Demarchi fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Oscar Saldanha should have stopped the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mazinho Damião in the 76th minute of play forced Squadra Demarchi's goalkeeper Oscar Saldanha to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Bucéfalo FC's Pedro Luís Montenegro proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 80th minute of the match, managed to save Bucéfalo FC from getting a goal against them. Oscar Saldanha came out of the goal in the 84th minute to try and stop a shot by Bucéfalo FC's Rodrigo Nunes. But to his dismay, Rodrigo Nunes quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. Oscar Saldanha showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Almir Borges, who was totally free with the ball in the 89th minute. Bucéfalo FC's Pedro Luís Montenegro proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 91st minute of the match, managed to save Bucéfalo FC from getting a goal against them.
