The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Carlos Campidelis charged in rather forcefully in the 2nd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Carlos Campidelis the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Marcelinho Matorin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Leonel Medeiros, who was totally free with the ball in the 7th minute. In the 10th minute, José Paulo Costa had to be helped off the field due to a pulled leg muscle. Heintje Taffarel charged in rather forcefully in the 10th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Heintje Taffarel the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Heintje Taffarel kicked well hit freekick during the 12th minute of the match. Marcelinho Matorin made a fantastic save in the 14th minute, when Gugu Silva sent off a good shot on target. Xandinho Bomba showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Carlos Campidelis, who was totally free with the ball in the 20th minute. Jaraguá do Sul FSCMZ's Xandinho Bomba played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edu Siqueira in the 24th minute of play. After 29 minutes, Emerson Tavares mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Mexilhão F. C. and the Jaraguá do Sul FSCMZ players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Jaraguá do Sul FSCMZ booed when Mexilhão F. C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 29 match minutes in a wonderful position. Emerson Tavares didn't get a good kick on the ball. Xandinho Bomba showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from João Francisco Mota in the 35th minute of the match. Marcelinho Matorin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Silvério Barral in the 36th minute of play. When Heintje Korte fell near the penalty area in the 39th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Jaraguá do Sul FSCMZ's protests and gave Heintje Korte a yellow card for diving instead. After 39 played minutes Jaraguá do Sul FSCMZ got a freekick which was hit by Heintje Korte. In the 40th minute of the match Edu Siqueira shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Xandinho Bomba showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. In the 43rd minute João Francisco Mota shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Xandinho Bomba saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Heintje Taffarel got his second yellow card in the match during the 43rd minute which meant that he had to leave the ground. Edu Siqueira took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 45th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Xandinho Bomba. Jaraguá do Sul FSCMZ's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. After 48 minutes, Silvério Barral mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Jaraguá do Sul FSCMZ and the Mexilhão F. C. players grew even worse after the yellow card. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Silvério Barral stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 53 minutes into the match, Mexilhão F. C.'s goal looked a bit too open when Gugu Silva came free, but Marcelinho Matorin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Marcelinho Matorin showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Silvério Barral, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Edu Siqueira in the 68th minute of play forced Jaraguá do Sul FSCMZ's goalkeeper Xandinho Bomba to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Jaraguá do Sul FSCMZ's Leonel Medeiros got a free kick in the 71st minute. Jaraguá do Sul FSCMZ's Giuseppe da Costa was substituted for Silvério Barral. Leonel Medeiros hit a great freekick 72 minutes into the match. In the 76th minute, Jaraguá do Sul FSCMZ's Jonathan Seco seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Jonathan Seco the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Jaraguá do Sul FSCMZ protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Jonathan Seco had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. 77 minutes into the match, Jaraguá do Sul FSCMZ's goal looked a bit too open when Edu Siqueira came free, but Xandinho Bomba reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Jaraguá do Sul FSCMZ's zone, Olívio Maranhense stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Xandinho Bomba came out of the goal and Olívio Maranhense tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Gugu Silva received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 80th minute. Marcelinho Matorin tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Jaraguá do Sul FSCMZ's Xandinho Bomba proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 82nd minute of the match, managed to save Jaraguá do Sul FSCMZ from getting a goal against them. After a defensive mix-up in Mexilhão F. C.'s zone, Gugu Silva stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Marcelinho Matorin came out of the goal and Gugu Silva tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Olívio Maranhense got a throw-in 91 minutes in the game and the ball was received by João Francisco Mota. 94 minutes into the game, Olívio Maranhense threw the ball into play from the sideline. Jaraguá do Sul FSCMZ's Leonel Medeiros quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Gugu Silva struck a weak shot in the 95th minute. Marcelinho Matorin didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Jaraguá do Sul FSCMZ. Mexilhão F. C.'s players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
