Lucio Soin received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 3rd minute. Prospero Matxin tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 5th minute, Serafin Froylan reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Prospero Matxin. The goal made the score 1-0. Baltasar Millano recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 13th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Serafin Froylan struck a weak shot in the 20th minute. Prospero Matxin didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Kaplan. Prospero Matxin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Lucio Soin, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to Kaplan getting a freekick after 26 minutes play. Angel Calisto hit a great ball. Eulalio Xabier struck a weak shot in the 27th minute. René Higuita didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for 17 de enero team. The supporters of Kaplan booed when 17 de enero team was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Matias Leguizamón didn't get a good kick on the ball. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Lucio Soin stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 51st minute, Lucio Soin got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After having played for 82 minutes, Matias Leguizamón managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. 17 de enero team's supporters crossed their fingers, but Matias Leguizamón was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Ricardo Benat came free with the goalkeeper in the 93rd minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and René Higuita could save by the left post. 17 de enero team's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
