Lisandro Erasto hit a great freekick 7 minutes into the match. 10 minutes into the game, Bernardino Tercero was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Fortinducto's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave NEWELL´S OLD BOYS the free kick. In the 10th match minute, Fortinducto was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bernardino Tercero to maneuver through the defense. After some fancy dribbling in the 15th minute, Samuel Aballe managed to get in a good position for a shot. Fortinducto's supporters rose to their feet, but Samuel Aballe was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Amancio Magdaleno breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Samuel Aballe received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 17th minute. Amancio Magdaleno tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Jairo Formerio in the 20th minute got a chance for a shot 20th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Raimundo Maurino during the 36th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 36 played minutes Fortinducto got a freekick which was hit by Raimundo Maurino. In the 38th minute, Samuel Aballe ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Amancio Magdaleno was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. A collision led to NEWELL´S OLD BOYS getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Artemio Goiz hit a great ball. Amancio Magdaleno showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Justino Palos in the 44th minute of the match. With a little luck, Fortinducto's Tomás Montel got control of the ball when Artemio Goiz tried to sneak it across the goal line. Jairo Formerio was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 47th minute. NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Apolo Richie to strike the kick off in the second half. 51 minutes into the match, NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Apolo Richie sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Tomás Montel narrowly saved just below the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Samuel Aballe in the 54th minute of play forced NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's goalkeeper Amancio Magdaleno to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 58th minute Jairo Formerio shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tomás Montel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some careless play in the NEWELL´S OLD BOYS defense, Raimundo Maurino kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Amancio Magdaleno. The NEWELL´S OLD BOYS fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Amancio Magdaleno should have stopped the shot. An unexpectedly hard shot by Artemio Goiz in the 68th minute of play forced Fortinducto's goalkeeper Tomás Montel to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Baltasar Rios's late challenge caught a Fortinducto's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Baltasar Rios helped the player get up and apologised. Baltasar Rios hit a great freekick 77 minutes into the match. 77 minutes into the match, Fortinducto's Samuel Aballe broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Apolo Richie fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tomás Montel having to interfere. Fortinducto's Tomás Montel played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Antonio Mundo in the 82nd minute of play. After 83 minutes of play Fortinducto's Raimundo Maurino was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. The supporters of NEWELL´S OLD BOYS booed when Fortinducto was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 83 match minutes in a wonderful position. Raimundo Maurino didn't get a good kick on the ball. 87 minutes into the game, Fortinducto's Arnoldo Pirro nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Amancio Magdaleno made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-5. NEWELL´S OLD BOYS's Amancio Magdaleno proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 96th minute of the match, managed to save NEWELL´S OLD BOYS from getting a goal against them. When the match was over Fortinducto could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than NEWELL´S OLD BOYS throughout the match.
