The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Gaspar Pacho came free with the goalkeeper in the 26th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Sérgio Goycochea could save by the left post. In the 28th minute, Domagoj Vida hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Dražen Ladić showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Marcos Abellan, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. In the 34th match minute, Los Gallos was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Arnoldo Amaya to maneuver through the defense. The supporters of Spams booed when Los Gallos was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position.
