Martín Palermo charged in rather forcefully in the 13th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Martín Palermo the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Espirillo FC's Simon Milian proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 14th minute of the match, managed to save Espirillo FC from getting a goal against them. The Cavern Club were awarded a corner in the 44th minute after Espirillo FC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Feliciano Lluis took the corner. The Cavern Club's Feliciano Lluis was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Simon Milian in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. After 45 played minutes Espirillo FC got a freekick which was hit by Madeo Vilamajo. After the first half Espirillo FC were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Simon Milian was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. With an all-out effort, Espirillo FC's Mariano Thomas threw himself towards the right post 86 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Marius Lăcătuș, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. In the 87th minute Martín Palermo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Simon Milian saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Espirillo FC had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
