Matthew Edwards dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. Jerome Groom hit a great freekick 12 minutes into the match. Roque Rosenbauer kicked well hit freekick during the 14th minute of the match. In the 14th minute, Roque Rosenbauer hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Stephan Brengelmann hit a great freekick 22 minutes into the match. Ingolf Riechel took the ball and in the 26 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Matthew Edwards. Matthew Edwards dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. Bradley Skipton hit a great freekick 35 minutes into the match. Ingolf Riechel received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Matthew Edwards tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 37th minute, Stephan Brengelmann hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 40th minute Kassian Rinke shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Matthew Edwards saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Matthew Edwards took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kassian Rinke, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Jerome Groom made a kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 64th minute, Theophil Bergschneider managed to get in a good position for a shot. SSV Ulm 1846's supporters rose to their feet, but Theophil Bergschneider was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Matthew Edwards breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Barrie Lester took the ball and in the 66 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Alexander Strzelczyk. Alexander Strzelczyk dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. Matthew Edwards showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Kassian Rinke, who was totally free with the ball in the 71st minute. Marc Greizer hit a great freekick 75 minutes into the match. After 76 played minutes, Club Atlético de Newell's Spike Lambley shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Alexander Strzelczyk came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Club Atlético de Newell reached it. Jerome Groom fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 81st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alexander Strzelczyk having to interfere. Club Atlético de Newell's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Kassian Rinke 88 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 1-3. SSV Ulm 1846's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
