In the 18th minute, Ernst Schnur fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. Kees Plappert who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 27thth minute tested the skills of Ivari Olumets when he managed to save the team from getting behind. When Aare Hindremäe came up free with the goalie in the 30th minute, the FC Dundee fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Aare Hindremäe couldn't finish the play. After a rather tough play, Sydney FC's Ernst Schnur got a free kick in the 32nd minute. When Ernst Schnur fell near the penalty area in the 37th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Sydney FC's protests and gave Ernst Schnur a yellow card for diving instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Aare Hindremäe in the 42nd minute of play forced Sydney FC's goalkeeper Florian Guderian to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 43rd minute of the match FC Dundee got a corner. Sydney FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Jass Enula ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner ended in Jass Enula almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Sydney FC's Florian Guderian did a great save. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Kees Plappert to make the kick off. After 50 played minutes Sydney FC got a freekick which was hit by Kees Plappert. In the 58th minute, Gabriel Michel hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of Sydney FC booed when FC Dundee was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 65 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ander Ruut didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ivari Olumets showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Pierre Möhn, who was totally free with the ball in the 77th minute. 80 minutes into the game, Ernst Schnur cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-0. Ivari Olumets was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. A collision led to Sydney FC getting a freekick after 94 minutes play. Peter Heidemann hit a great ball. Sydney FC were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of FC Dundee for a fine match.
