After a defensive mix-up in Valadas's zone, Angelo Bodelon stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Alexandre Soares came out of the goal and Angelo Bodelon tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 41st minute, Jorge Cordoba reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Alexandre Soares. The goal made the score 1-0. In the 46thth minute of the game Francis Casillas who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Valadas's Alexandre Soares was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Vasco Lamego was the one to do the kick off. With 56 minutes on the clock, Hermenegildo Abrantes commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card.
