The audience thought a goal was coming when Bartolomé Correa got free with Fabrício Marques in the 12th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 15th minute Taio Sánchez shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Fabrício Marques saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Salvador Durango showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Humberto Vasconcelos in the 23rd minute of the match. Reinaldo Álvares lost his temper 31 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. In the 35th minute Abel Paixão shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Salvador Durango saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Salvador Durango stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Francisco Noronha's shot from short distance in the 35th minute.
