When Lennert Van Meerbeec came up free with the goalie in the 18th minute, the Brugge United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Lennert Van Meerbeec couldn't finish the play. In the 19th match minute, Selebi-Phikwe was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lionel Van Bockorst to maneuver through the defense. Francis Lenoir hit a great freekick 25 minutes into the match. A collision led to Brugge United getting a freekick after 27 minutes play. Tjorven Jaddon hit a great ball. Thomas Gobeleyns was a little too slow when Christian Meys got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 36th minute. The score was now 1-0. In the 41st minute, Christian Meys left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Brugge United fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-0. 51 minutes into the match, Christian Meys notched a goal, 3-0, to the right of Selebi-Phikwe's Thomas Gobeleyns. Thomas Gobeleyns was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Lennert Van Meerbeec recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 56th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 60th minute, Jasper Van Linthaut hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Cederique Van Calster hit a great freekick 71 minutes into the match. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. In the 75th minute Jochen Diericx shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Thomas Gobeleyns saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Lennert Van Meerbeec fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Thomas Gobeleyns having to interfere. 79 minutes into the match, Selebi-Phikwe's goal looked a bit too open when Christian Meys came free, but Thomas Gobeleyns reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Benedict van Eijnde kicked well hit freekick during the 80th minute of the match. The supporters of Brugge United booed when Selebi-Phikwe was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 81 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cederique Van Calster didn't get a good kick on the ball. 83 minutes into the match, Selebi-Phikwe's goal looked a bit too open when Arnold Wyns came free, but Thomas Gobeleyns reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Brugge United's Jochen Diericx got a good chance for a goal in the 84th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Selebi-Phikwe's Thomas Gobeleyns played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Arnold Wyns in the 87th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dries Dirckx in the 95th minute of play forced Selebi-Phikwe's goalkeeper Thomas Gobeleyns to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Selebi-Phikwe's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
