After a rather tough play, Galo do Cerrado's Cássio Matorin got a free kick in the 2nd minute. The supporters of Jardim Botânico booed when Galo do Cerrado was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 3 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eugênio Reis didn't get a good kick on the ball. Cássio Castro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pedro Paulo Cruz in the 4th minute of play. Vladimir Almeida received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 6th minute. Cássio Castro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Cássio Matorin got free with Ademar Leme in the 8th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 9th minute, José Paulo Marinho hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 10 minutes into the match, Galo do Cerrado's goal looked a bit too open when Vladimir Almeida came free, but Cássio Castro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 14 minutes into the match, Vladimir Almeida had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Cássio Castro. Galo do Cerrado's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Vladimir Almeida was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Pedro Paulo Cruz's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Cássio Castro read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 17th minute of play. José Paulo Marinho could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 24th minute of the match, but Ademar Leme made a huge save. With his leg Ademar Leme managed to avoid a goal in the 25thth minute, when Galo do Cerrado's José Paulo Marinho fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Anderson Teles hit a great freekick 25 minutes into the match. The supporters of Jardim Botânico booed when Galo do Cerrado was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 31 match minutes in a wonderful position. Haroldo Peixoto didn't get a good kick on the ball. Jardim Botânico's Gonçalo Valle got a good chance for a goal in the 32nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 38 played minutes Jardim Botânico got a freekick which was hit by Serginho Hoffmann. José Paulo Marinhos short, quick shot in the 40thth minute got Ademar Leme to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Cássio Castro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Pedro Paulo Cruz in the 44th minute of the match. Carlos Alberto Faria kicked well hit freekick during the 45th minute of the match. Jardim Botânico's Serginho Hoffmann got a good chance for a goal in the 48th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when José Paulo Marinho stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Jardim Botânico's Ademar Leme played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by José Paulo Marinho in the 52nd minute of play. Cássio Castro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Pedro Paulo Cruz in the 57th minute of the match. A collision led to Jardim Botânico getting a freekick after 59 minutes play. Serginho Hoffmann hit a great ball. Ademar Leme made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from José Paulo Marinho in the 64th minute of play. Marcos Nascimento's late challenge caught a Jardim Botânico's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Marcos Nascimento helped the player get up and apologised. Serginho Hoffmanns short, quick shot in the 75thth minute got Cássio Castro to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Ademar Leme took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from José Paulo Marinho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When Galo do Cerrado's José Paulo Marinho in the 84th minute got a chance for a shot 84th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie.
