Celso Nascimento recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 17th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Jenipapo SC's Doni Dias pulled a muscle in his back after 18 minutes and couldn't finish the game. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Wágner Vergílio during the 18th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Jenipapo SC made a substitution. Frank Motta replaced Doni Dias. The crowd rose to their feet as Cafu Catarinense kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Vitinho Bastos. That made the score 1-0 in the 20 minute of play. Jenipapo SC's Wanderson Valadares got a good chance for a goal in the 26th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Luiz Fabiano Guedes fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vitinho Bastos having to interfere. Cafu Catarinense could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 31st minute of the match, but Vitinho Bastos made a huge save. Franklin das Neves was astounded when the referee showed him the red card after a seemingly innocent challenge, 43 minutes into the match. The supporters of Jenipapo SC booed when Flamengo FSCMZ was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 44 match minutes in a wonderful position. Franklin das Neves didn't get a good kick on the ball. Vitinho Bastos took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alberto Couto, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 46th minute, Wágner Vergílio hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Celso Nascimento was the one to do the kick off. The audience thought a goal was coming when Benjamim Saraiva got free with Emílio de Amaral in the 52nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Wágner Vergílio received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 66th minute. Emílio de Amaral tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 68th match minute, Flamengo FSCMZ was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Celso Nascimento to maneuver through the defense. Vitinho Bastos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Wanderson Valadares, who was totally free with the ball in the 69th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Wanderson Valadares in the 69th minute of play forced Flamengo FSCMZ's goalkeeper Vitinho Bastos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Flamengo FSCMZ to win.
