The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Caco Matos during the 2nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 5th minute, Luiz Fabiano Azevedo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The crowd rose to their feet as Botafogo AP's Caco Matos slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Durvalino Dracena. That made the score 1-0 after 7 minutes of play. Gilmar de Mendonça took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Fiori Coutinho, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The audience thought a goal was coming when Edson Tavares got free with Durvalino Dracena in the 20th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Caco Matos fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Durvalino Dracena having to interfere. Caco Matos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 27th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Botafogo AP's Caco Matos got a good chance for a goal in the 30th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Caco Matos received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Durvalino Dracena came out and tried to block the shot, but Caco Matos slotted it home off the left post making it 2-0 in the 37th minute. Gilmar de Mendonça showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fiori Coutinho in the 40th minute of the match. Gilmar de Mendonça showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Antônio Toledo, who was totally free with the ball in the 44th minute. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

The wind increased when Caco Matos made the kick off in the second half. Fiori Coutinho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Botafogo AP's Lino Trancoso was substituted for Ronaldinho Félix. Gilmar de Mendonça made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Antônio Eger in the 76th minute of play. The audience was convinced that Antônio Toledo's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Gilmar de Mendonça was relentless in the 78th minute of the game. With a little luck, Botafogo AP's Gilmar de Mendonça got control of the ball when Fiori Coutinho tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 84th minute Antônio Toledo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gilmar de Mendonça saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 96 played minutes Cambotinha EC got a freekick which was hit by Antônio Costa. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Botafogo AP fully deserved thier win.
