Ronaldo Matos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Armando Mota, who was totally free with the ball in the 4th minute. When Lúcio Eger came up free with the goalie in the 6th minute, the AVAÍ F.C. fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Lúcio Eger couldn't finish the play. Pedro Luís Sergipano stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Paulão Tasso's shot from short distance in the 8th minute. A collision led to AVAÍ F.C. getting a freekick after 11 minutes play. Guto de Toledo hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, Tamboril's Elano Pernambucano got a free kick in the 13th minute. Lúcio Eger hit a great freekick 16 minutes into the match. After 17 played minutes Tamboril got a freekick which was hit by Armando Mota. When Ernani de Mendonça fell near the penalty area in the 19th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored AVAÍ F.C.'s protests and gave Ernani de Mendonça a yellow card for diving instead. After 19 played minutes AVAÍ F.C. got a freekick which was hit by Ernani de Mendonça. In the 20th minute, Waldemar de Azevedo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Eusébio de Amorim hit a great freekick 23 minutes into the match. In the 26th minute, Paulão Tasso ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Pedro Luís Sergipano was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. If Narciso Terra had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Paulão Tasso in the 33rd minute of play forced Tamboril's goalkeeper Pedro Luís Sergipano to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some careless play in the Tamboril defense, Nico Sergipano kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Pedro Luís Sergipano. The Tamboril fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Pedro Luís Sergipano should have stopped the shot. Paulão Tasso sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

The supporters of Tamboril booed when AVAÍ F.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Telmo Sarmento didn't get a good kick on the ball. Nelsinho Catarinense lost his temper 53 minutes into the game and shoved another player to the ground. He was immediately shown a red card. After 53 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for AVAÍ F.C.! Ediberto Bertassi sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Pedro Luís Sergipano made an important save on a dangerous shot by Paulão Tasso in the 69th minute. After a rather tough play, Tamboril's Tony Soares got a free kick in the 70th minute. Paulão Tasso's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 73rdth minute, Pedro Luís Sergipano skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Jardel Fernandes hit a great freekick 74 minutes into the match. Paulão Tasso blasted a shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Pedro Luís Sergipano having to make a save. Paulão Tasso sent away a hard shot on goal in the 80th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. With a little luck, Tamboril's Pedro Luís Sergipano got control of the ball when Paulão Tasso tried to sneak it across the goal line. 87 minutes into the match, Paulão Tasso had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Pedro Luís Sergipano. Pedro Luís Sergipano made a fantastic save in the 94th minute, when Paulão Tasso sent off a good shot on target. An unexpectedly hard shot by Narciso Terra in the 98th minute of play forced AVAÍ F.C.'s goalkeeper Ronaldo Matos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. AVAÍ F.C. played a much better game than Tamboril and deserved their victory. The Tamboril players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
