Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Alessandro Mandrak in the 8th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Paulão Negri prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Paulão Negri made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Bruninho Arósio in the 10th minute of play. Serafim Mesquita came out of the goal in the 17th minute to try and stop a shot by CE LAJEADENSE RS's Luís de Lara. But to his dismay, Luís de Lara quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. After 21 minutes, Clemente Moreira mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the CE LAJEADENSE RS and the Várzea F.C. players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 21st minute, Clemente Moreira hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Paulão Negri showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alessandro Mandrak, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Váldson Berger in the 23rd minute of play forced Várzea F.C.'s goalkeeper Serafim Mesquita to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Iuri Paranaense hit a great freekick 24 minutes into the match. Nando Arruda kicked well hit freekick during the 27th minute of the match. In the 28th minute, CE LAJEADENSE RS's Lauro Sergipano ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Serafim Mesquita. Serafim Mesquita yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-0. José Maria Vaz took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 33rd minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Paulão Negri. CE LAJEADENSE RS's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Clemente Moreira hit a great freekick 38 minutes into the match. Paulão Negri showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Bruninho Arósio, who was totally free with the ball in the 44th minute. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-0 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Luís de Lara stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. If Luís de Lara had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Paulão Negri made a fantastic save in the 62nd minute, when Alessandro Mandrak sent off a good shot on target. Lauro Sergipano fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Serafim Mesquita having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in CE LAJEADENSE RS's zone, Bruninho Arósio stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Paulão Negri came out of the goal and Bruninho Arósio tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a rather tough play, CE LAJEADENSE RS's Lauro Sergipano got a free kick in the 77th minute. Ramiro Rosado could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 79th minute of the match, but Paulão Negri made a huge save. After 83 played minutes CE LAJEADENSE RS got a freekick which was hit by Váldson Berger. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jailson Koehler in the 85th minute of play forced CE LAJEADENSE RS's goalkeeper Paulão Negri to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Várzea F.C. booed when CE LAJEADENSE RS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 87 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lauro Sergipano didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 88 played minutes Várzea F.C. got a freekick which was hit by Iuri Paranaense. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Umberto Paiva during the 95th minute. In the 96th minute, Ramiro Rosado fired a really elegant long shot, but Paulão Negri threw himself and managed to get hold of the ball just in front of the right post. Many of Várzea F.C.'s supporters were seen to leave the ground early as it became clear their team was going to lose. Várzea F.C. may have spent more time on the ball, but CE LAJEADENSE RS were more willing to take their chances and they walked away with the win.
