But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Wilfredo Monico couldn't finish the play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Wilfredo Monico got free with Alejo Botello in the 42nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The Gladiadores players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Inter Miami CF were winning 1-2.

They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Inter Miami CF would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
