Spectators: 153 (Terracing: 115, Seating: 35, VIP seats: 3) RIVER's Anselmo Esdras started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. 3 minutes into the match, Vélez Juniors's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Jerardo came free, but Enrique Urtsin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Enrique Urtsin came out of the goal in the 3rd minute to try and stop a shot by RIVER's Cristian Jerardo. But to his dismay, Cristian Jerardo quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. In the 7th match minute, Vélez Juniors was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sergio Gai to maneuver through the defense. In the 12th minute the ball was on its way in behind Vélez Juniors's goalkeeper Enrique Urtsin, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After 13 played minutes Emilio Serafo rounded RIVER's defense and shot a beautiful shot into goal via left pole - 1-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Emilio Serafo in the 16th minute of play forced RIVER's goalkeeper Narciso Jerrald to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the match had gone on for 17 minutes, Rogelio Madeo took a quick shot and it went in 2-1 without a chance for Narciso Jerrald to make any attempt to save it. Narciso Jerrald showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Emilio Serafo in the 24th minute of the match. Rogelio Madeo scored 3-1 in the 25th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Narciso Jerrald, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Silvio Firme's late challenge caught a RIVER's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Silvio Firme helped the player get up and apologised. In the 29th minute, Silvio Firme hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 32 minutes into the match, RIVER's goal looked a bit too open when Rogelio Madeo came free, but Narciso Jerrald reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Narciso Jerrald took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Emilio Serafo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Enrique Urtsin made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Florentino Endira in the 40th minute of play. Florentino Endira took the ball and in the 41 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Enrique Urtsin. Enrique Urtsin dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 4-2. After a defensive mix-up in Vélez Juniors's zone, Florentino Endira stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Enrique Urtsin came out of the goal and Florentino Endira tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 46 minutes into the match, RIVER's goal looked a bit too open when Rogelio Madeo came free, but Narciso Jerrald reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Af the end of the first half the score was 4-2. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Rogelio Madeo to make the kick off. Florentino Endira struck a weak shot in the 52nd minute. Enrique Urtsin didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for RIVER. In the 57th match minute, Vélez Juniors was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sergio Gai to maneuver through the defense. RIVER's Narciso Jerrald played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Emilio Serafo in the 67th minute of play. In the 69thth minute of the game Rogelio Madeo who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but RIVER's Narciso Jerrald was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After 77 minutes, Dionisio Monico mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Vélez Juniors and the RIVER players grew even worse after the yellow card. Vélez Juniors's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave RIVER the free kick. The audience thought a goal was coming when Gerardo Ixaka got free with Enrique Urtsin in the 92nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 94 minutes into the match, RIVER's goal looked a bit too open when Emilio Serafo came free, but Narciso Jerrald reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 95th minute Rogelio Madeo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Narciso Jerrald saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Vélez Juniors fans cheered their team off the field, for while RIVER had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
