Tomás Esiquio took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Amado Pacorro, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Anacleto Lobo during the 27th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Hector Txartiko didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Victoriano Rojelio went, in the 36th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Victoriano Rojelio to make the kick off. 57 minutes into the game, Martín Cabezon was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. The Cavern Club's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Independiente the free kick. After 57 played minutes The Cavern Club got a freekick which was hit by Martín Cabezon. Teobaldo Casomiro took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 58th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Tomás Esiquio. The Cavern Club's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. After a rather tough play, Independiente's Gabriel Carlomagno got a free kick in the 89th minute. If Ermegildo Otsoko had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 93rd match minute, Independiente was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Amador Gustau to maneuver through the defense.
