Teodosio Cerda was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After a defensive mix-up in Astillero del Guayas's zone, Raimundo Backhouse stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Corozo Nevares came out of the goal and Raimundo Backhouse tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Clemente Barros, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 80 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The Corozo Nevares was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. When Club Deportes Santa Cruz's Clemencín Varas in the 84th minute got a chance for a shot 84th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie.
