Argoitz Abellaneda took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Franklin Smith, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Rolando Pinilla kicked well hit freekick during the 40th minute of the match. When Alejandro Lao fell near the penalty area in the 46th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Buenaventura FC's protests and gave Alejandro Lao a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, Buenaventura FC's Alejandro Lao got a free kick in the 46th minute. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Franklin Smith to make the kick off. Joe Oberto dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-1. Buenaventura FC's Joe Oberto played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Guilherme Abad in the 88th minute of play. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see El Pulpo Paceño lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
