El Salvador's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Carlos Palencia in the 11th minute. Juan Manuel Vargas sent away a hard shot on goal in the 23rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Paradorn Todor took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Juan Manuel Vargas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Paradorn Todor showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Damián Alcazar in the 27th minute of the match. Nelson Mendoza came free with the goalkeeper in the 31st minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and George Forsyth could save by the left post. Miguel Gallegos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 34th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Paradorn Todor showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Damián Alcazar, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. Damián Alcazar recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 40th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The supporters of Peru booed when El Salvador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. Carlos Palencia didn't get a good kick on the ball. After the first half Peru were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

El Salvador's Eliseo Guevara was substituted for Carlos Palencia. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Xuaco Oñaederra to make the kick off. El Salvador's Paradorn Todor proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 52nd minute of the match, managed to save El Salvador from getting a goal against them. George Forsyth made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Raúl Quintanilla in the 57th minute of play. Paradorn Todor showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Regis Padriña in the 60th minute of the match. Paradorn Todor made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Luis Bonet in the 61st minute of play. 63 minutes had been played when some careless play by El Salvador's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Bard Bom was slow to take the kick. During this time Peru's players had a chance to rest. The corner ended in Bard Bom almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but El Salvador's Paradorn Todor did a great save. George Forsyth showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Raúl Quintanilla in the 66th minute of the match. In the 68th minute of the match, Xuaco Oñaederra tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Paradorn Todor saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. Peru's Fe Nestares was substituted for Damián Alcazar. A collision led to El Salvador getting a freekick after 79 minutes play. Arnoldo Guzman hit a great ball. In the 81st match minute, El Salvador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Baltazar Oporto to maneuver through the defense. Paradorn Todor made a fantastic save in the 81st minute, when Fe Nestares sent off a good shot on target. If Arnoldo Guzman had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. El Salvador's Paradorn Todor played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Xuaco Oñaederra in the 85th minute of play. The supporters of Peru booed when El Salvador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 90 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eliseo Guevara didn't get a good kick on the ball. Paradorn Todor made a fantastic save in the 90th minute, when Fe Nestares sent off a good shot on target. Miguel Gallegos sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Nelson Mendoza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The El Salvador fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Peru were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
