The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After some fancy dribbling in the 4th minute, Leandro Soares managed to get in a good position for a shot. Fc Benefica's supporters rose to their feet, but Leandro Soares was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ennio Orsini breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Clapham Rovers's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Leandro Soares 6 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 1-0. The audience was convinced that Leandro Soares's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Ennio Orsini was relentless in the 9th minute of the game. The supporters of Clapham Rovers booed when Fc Benefica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 10 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jens van Basten didn't get a good kick on the ball. Leandro Soares sent away a hard shot on goal in the 15th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 16th minute, Fc Benefica's Leandro Soares ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Ennio Orsini. Ennio Orsini yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-0. A collision led to Clapham Rovers getting a freekick after 23 minutes play. Gavin Sedgemore hit a great ball. After 24 played minutes Clapham Rovers got a freekick which was hit by Justino Arixo. João Francisco Toscano received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. Taco Uebels tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 29th match minute, Clapham Rovers was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Richard Thompson to maneuver through the defense. If Leandro Soares had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 33rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Leandro Soares in the 36th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ennio Orsini saved Clapham Rovers from getting behind. When the match clock showed 36 minutes, the score became 3-0 when Leandro Soares sped through Clapham Rovers's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Ennio Orsini. Taco Uebels showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Adrian Moss, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. In the 40th minute, Richard Thompson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Leandro Soares could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 42nd minute of the match, but Ennio Orsini made a huge save. Justino Arixo kicked well hit freekick during the 43rd minute of the match. Leandro Soares sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-0 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Cléberson Mendonça made a kick off. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Leandro Soares in the 52nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ennio Orsini saved Clapham Rovers from getting behind. If Leandro Soares had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 54th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Leandro Soares in the 54th minute of play forced Clapham Rovers's goalkeeper Ennio Orsini to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Jens van Basten fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 56th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ennio Orsini having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Clapham Rovers's zone, Leandro Soares stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ennio Orsini came out of the goal and Leandro Soares tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 63rd minute João Francisco Toscano shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Taco Uebels saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Leandro Soares fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ennio Orsini having to interfere. In the 68thth minute of the game Leandro Soares who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Clapham Rovers's Ennio Orsini was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Leandro Soares fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 72nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ennio Orsini having to interfere. Fc Benefica made a substitution. Hugo Andriessen replaced Humberto Jonge. Leandro Soares sent away a hard shot on goal in the 75th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. But to his dismay, Leandro Soares quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-0. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Fc Benefica fully deserved thier win.
