An unexpectedly hard shot by Paulino Lamberto in the 14th minute of play forced Syrianska FF's goalkeeper Wictor Mejling to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. San Martin de Tucuman were awarded a corner in the 16th minute after Syrianska FF's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Anastasio Amesti took the corner. After 17 minutes Syrianska FF's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Anastasio Amesti who took care of the corner kick. In the 18th minute Thomás Nickerson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cecilio Jax saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Cecilio Jax showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Thomás Nickerson in the 27th minute of the match. After some careless play in the Syrianska FF defense, Paulino Lamberto kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Wictor Mejling. The Syrianska FF fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Wictor Mejling should have stopped the shot. 34 minutes into the match, San Martin de Tucuman's goal looked a bit too open when Frans Hökkvist came free, but Cecilio Jax reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Cecilio Jax was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Frans Hökkvist took the ball and in the 41 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Cecilio Jax. Cecilio Jax dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-2. If Paulino Lamberto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. San Martin de Tucuman's Cecilio Jax played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Frans Hökkvist in the 47th minute of play. The first half was very even, with the score at 2-2 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Frans Hökkvist stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 51 minutes into the game, San Martin de Tucuman's Marcial Munio nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Wictor Mejling made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-2. Cecilio Jax took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Erland Björkqvist, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Cecilio Jax made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Thomás Nickerson in the 55th minute of play. Thomás Nickerson charged in rather forcefully in the 56th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Thomás Nickerson the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 56 played minutes Syrianska FF got a freekick which was hit by Thomás Nickerson. When Thomás Nickerson was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 58 minutes had been played. A collision led to Syrianska FF getting a freekick after 58 minutes play. Thomás Nickerson hit a great ball. In the 61st match minute, Syrianska FF was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gert Vik to maneuver through the defense. In the 64th minute Paulino Lamberto shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wictor Mejling saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Erland Björkqvist sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. San Martin de Tucuman's Severino Elorri was substituted for Pipis Vattimos. Wictor Mejling came out of the goal in the 71st minute to try and stop a shot by San Martin de Tucuman's Marcial Munio. But to his dismay, Marcial Munio quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 4-2. San Martin de Tucuman's Eugenio Orland was substituted for Luciano Selmo. Wictor Mejling came out of the goal in the 81st minute to try and stop a shot by San Martin de Tucuman's Marcial Munio. But to his dismay, Marcial Munio quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 5-2. Cecilio Jax made an important save on a dangerous shot by Erland Björkqvist in the 86th minute. 89 minutes into the match, Hector Gizon had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Wictor Mejling. Syrianska FF's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Hector Gizon was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 6-2. San Martin de Tucuman's Severino Elorri got a good chance for a goal in the 92nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Kent Norberg got free with Cecilio Jax in the 93rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. San Martin de Tucuman's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
