An unexpectedly hard shot by Joélson Melo in the 7th minute of play forced Racing Club's goalkeeper Everardo Ganix to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Rockets's Luiz Eduardo Pimenta got a free kick in the 9th minute. Anselmo Ferdinand fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Geraldo Queiroz having to interfere. Narciso Chucho hit a great freekick 14 minutes into the match. In the 14th minute, Dudu Madureira got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. A collision led to Rockets getting a freekick after 18 minutes play. Valério Peres hit a great ball. After a defensive mix-up in Rockets's zone, Roberto Rufo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Geraldo Queiroz came out of the goal and Roberto Rufo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After 20 played minutes Racing Club got a freekick which was hit by Gavino Austin. Amancio Matteo hit a great freekick 23 minutes into the match. Everardo Ganix stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Dudu Madureira's shot from short distance in the 26th minute. In the 27th minute, Rockets's Joélson Melo ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Everardo Ganix. Everardo Ganix yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. In the 32nd minute, Roberto Rufo left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Racing Club fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. With his leg Everardo Ganix managed to avoid a goal in the 36thth minute, when Rockets's Dudu Madureira fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. After 43 minutes of play, Racing Club's Roberto Rufo made it 1-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Geraldo Queiroz was left in no man's land by his defense there! If Dudu Madureira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Dudu Madureira made a kick off. In the 52nd minute Joélson Melo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Everardo Ganix saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 54 minutes into the game, Rockets's Dudu Madureira nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Everardo Ganix made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-2. 61 minutes into the game, Dudu Madureira cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-2. Everardo Ganix was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Elias Mendebal kicked well hit freekick during the 66th minute of the match. Racing Club's Everardo Ganix played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Joélson Melo in the 69th minute of play. Roberto Rufo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 74th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. After 75 played minutes Racing Club got a freekick which was hit by Anselmo Ferdinand. Dudu Madureira might have been able to make a better finish in the 78th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Everardo Ganix. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Dudu Madureira ran back to his position shaking his head. Racing Club's Everardo Ganix played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Fabinho Mattos in the 84th minute of play. Everardo Ganix showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dudu Madureira, who was totally free with the ball in the 90th minute. In the 91st match minute, Racing Club was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gavino Austin to maneuver through the defense. For all the effort they put into the match, the Racing Club players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Rockets.
