Yuri da Cunha stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Severino Capixaba's shot from short distance in the 21st minute. XV de Piracicaba's Remo Goiano got a good chance for a goal in the 26th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The supporters of XV de Piracicaba booed when Olivedos was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rubinho Chaves didn't get a good kick on the ball. 34 minutes into the match, XV de Piracicaba's goalkeeper Fonso Zotillo had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Abel de Godoi. The audience was convinced that Abel de Godoi's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Fonso Zotillo was relentless in the 37th minute of the game. In the 46th minute, XV de Piracicaba's Marcinho Loureiro seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Marcinho Loureiro the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of XV de Piracicaba protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Marcinho Loureiro had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In the 47th match minute, XV de Piracicaba was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marcinho Loureiro to maneuver through the defense. In the 48th minute, Luisinho Ceresso got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

When the match clock showed 96 minutes, the score became 3-0 when Kaká Passos sped through XV de Piracicaba's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Fonso Zotillo. Olivedos's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
