In the 16th minute Vincent Benett shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eduardo Pereyra saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 18th match minute, Surahammar was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Vincent Benett to maneuver through the defense. After some careless play in the New York Red Bulls defense, Radamel Oakley kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Eduardo Pereyra. The New York Red Bulls fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Eduardo Pereyra should have stopped the shot. Eduardo Pereyra took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Radamel Oakley, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Eduardo Pereyra stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Radamel Oakley's shot from short distance in the 32nd minute. With a little luck, Surahammar's Jan Lindström got control of the ball when Nazım Taci tried to sneak it across the goal line. 37 minutes into the match, Radamel Oakley had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Eduardo Pereyra. New York Red Bulls's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Radamel Oakley was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-3. Eduardo Pereyra showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Radamel Oakley, who was totally free with the ball in the 40th minute. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-3 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Radamel Oakley stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The referee felt a red card was in order, 51 minutes into the game, when Salih Şahsuvaroğlu put in a rough tackle. In the 50th minute, one of New York Red Bulls:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for New York Red Bulls. Eduardo Pereyra showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Vincent Benett in the 55th minute of the match. Surahammar's Zlatan Lion was substituted for Toninho Lara. Surahammar's Victor Santxol was substituted for Radamel Oakley. Surahammar's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Billy Fristedt in the 58th minute. Billy Fristedt made a great header on Surahammar's corner, it was just that New York Red Bulls's Eduardo Pereyra managed to reach the ball for a save. Surahammar played a much better game than New York Red Bulls and deserved their victory. The New York Red Bulls players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
