Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Remigio Valerón made an important save on a dangerous shot by Oscar Mendonça in the 21st minute. The supporters of ClUb DePoRtIvO LUGO booed when SAS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Hélder Nóbrega didn't get a good kick on the ball. Laerte Favoretto might have been able to make a better finish in the 27th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Willian Negri. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Laerte Favoretto ran back to his position shaking his head. SAS's Willian Negri played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Julio Alacuart in the 30th minute of play. When the match clock showed 32 minutes, the score became 1-0 when Agostinho Carneiro sped through ClUb DePoRtIvO LUGO's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Remigio Valerón. After some fancy dribbling in the 35th minute, Durval Simões managed to get in a good position for a shot. SAS's supporters rose to their feet, but Durval Simões was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Remigio Valerón breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Willian Negri made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Julio Alacuart in the 37th minute of play. Remigio Valerón showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Agostinho Carneiro, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. In the 47th minute the ball was on its way in behind SAS's goalkeeper Willian Negri, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Willian Negri took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Guillermo Rapado, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. ClUb DePoRtIvO LUGO's Guido Escobar was substituted for Jakes Vila. ClUb DePoRtIvO LUGO's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
