J.C. Ogden came free with the goalkeeper in the 14th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Haimar Traves could save by the left post. Benito Burnett hit a great freekick 17 minutes into the match. The corner ended in Rich Jean almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but R.B Leipzig's Haimar Traves did a great save. In the 24th minute Ronaldinho Merayo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Roman Rollins saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 24 minutes of play, R.B Leipzig's Ronaldinho Merayo made it 0-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Roman Rollins was left in no man's land by his defense there! Boca Juniors's Brian Herget got a good chance for a goal in the 38th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When J.C. Ogden came up free with the goalie in the 41st minute, the Boca Juniors fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that J.C. Ogden couldn't finish the play. In the 42nd match minute, R.B Leipzig was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Manel Corroto to maneuver through the defense. The Boca Juniors players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. R.B Leipzig were winning 0-1.

Jason Stuart's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Haimar Traves read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 51st minute of play. A collision led to R.B Leipzig getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. Manel Corroto hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jason Stuart in the 56th minute of play forced R.B Leipzig's goalkeeper Haimar Traves to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 63rd minute, Jason Stuart ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Haimar Traves was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. If Artur Queto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Boca Juniors made a substitution. Cyryl Karpinski replaced J.C. Ogden. After some fancy dribbling in the 70th minute, Cyryl Karpinski managed to get in a good position for a shot. Boca Juniors's supporters rose to their feet, but Cyryl Karpinski was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Haimar Traves breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 75 played minutes R.B Leipzig got a freekick which was hit by Elequemedo Mirafuentes. Haimar Traves took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cyryl Karpinski, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the Boca Juniors players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
