When Cobresal's Gregorio Quintero in the 9th minute got a chance for a shot 9th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Mayo's goalie prevented a goal. Johnnie Osbourn made in the 11th minute of the game a quick throw-in and Evelio Goren immediately put the ball in play. Idacio Ballejos received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 13th minute. Horacio Jesus Urruticoechea tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 15 minutes into the match, Cobresal's goal looked a bit too open when Idacio Ballejos came free, but Horacio Jesus Urruticoechea reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 23rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Mayo's goalkeeper Marcus Deacon, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. If Idacio Ballejos had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gregorio Quintero in the 28th minute of play forced Mayo's goalkeeper Marcus Deacon to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some careless play in the Mayo defense, Gregorio Quintero kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Marcus Deacon. The Mayo fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Marcus Deacon should have stopped the shot. Cobresal's Adalberto Monasterio quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Johnnie Osbourn, made in the 33rd minute of the game. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Idacio Ballejos to strike the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Idacio Ballejos in the 52nd minute of play forced Cobresal's goalkeeper Horacio Jesus Urruticoechea to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
