When the match had gone on for 3 minutes, Cristian Nevares took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Simon Fanström to make any attempt to save it. When Mustafa Hamit Gündüz fell near the penalty area in the 12th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Karpaty Krosno's protests and gave Mustafa Hamit Gündüz a yellow card for diving instead. In the 12th match minute, Karpaty Krosno was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mustafa Hamit Gündüz to maneuver through the defense. 16 minutes into the game, Cristian Nevares recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Simon Fanström. Cristian Nevares showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-0. Simon Fanström made a fantastic save in the 19th minute, when Jacinto Carneiro sent off a good shot on target. Jacinto Carneiro received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Simon Fanström came out and tried to block the shot, but Jacinto Carneiro slotted it home off the left post making it 3-0 in the 24th minute. In the 28th match minute, Malmo was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Olov Klemensson to maneuver through the defense. Petter Biörkman's late challenge caught a Karpaty Krosno's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Petter Biörkman helped the player get up and apologised. In the 30th match minute, Malmo was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Petter Biörkman to maneuver through the defense. In the 33rd minute Per-Oskar Ahlstedt shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Slawomir Niedzwiecki saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Malmo's Simon Fanström proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 38th minute of the match, managed to save Malmo from getting a goal against them. 41 minutes into the match, Malmo's goalkeeper Simon Fanström had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cristian Nevares. Simon Fanström made a fantastic save in the 42nd minute, when Wlodzimierz Rzeszutek sent off a good shot on target. In the 44th minute, Per-Oskar Ahlstedt ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Slawomir Niedzwiecki was frozen by the shot and now it was 3-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hendrick Sand in the 47th minute of play forced Malmo's goalkeeper Simon Fanström to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-1 at half-time.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Per-Oskar Ahlstedt stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After 53 played minutes Malmo got a freekick which was hit by Gilbert Adelsköld. After a rather tough play, Malmo's Birger Finsberg got a free kick in the 55th minute. Ronaldinho Kopinski took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 56th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Simon Fanström. Malmo's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Alex Hultman in the 57thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Slawomir Niedzwiecki, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. After 59 minutes, Cristian Nevares mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Karpaty Krosno and the Malmo players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 60 played minutes Karpaty Krosno got a freekick which was hit by Cristian Nevares. Petter Biörkman received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 61st minute. Slawomir Niedzwiecki tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 65thth minute of the game Cristian Nevares who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Malmo's Simon Fanström was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 71 minutes into the game, Jacinto Carneiro cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 4-1. Simon Fanström was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Per-Oskar Ahlstedt's late challenge caught a Karpaty Krosno's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Nevares in the 86th minute of play forced Malmo's goalkeeper Simon Fanström to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Karpaty Krosno's Sorin Buciu got a free kick in the 87th minute. When the match had gone on for 88 minutes, Alex Hultman put it in 5-2 from a short distance just to the right of Slawomir Niedzwiecki. Simon Fanström showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Nevares in the 91st minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Karpaty Krosno's zone, Alex Hultman stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Slawomir Niedzwiecki came out of the goal and Alex Hultman tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Karpaty Krosno's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
