With an all-out effort, FC Tó Madeira's António Correia threw himself towards the right post 20 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Niceto Izel, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Vera Cruz's António Correia proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 22nd minute of the match, managed to save Vera Cruz from getting a goal against them. Vera Cruz's attentive Aldo Câmara managed to snatch the ball when Marcelo Brito made a throw-in in the 24th minute of the game. But to his dismay, Sidónio Peralta quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Niceto Izel to make the kick off.
