António Correia showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Walmyr Bastos, who was totally free with the ball in the 3rd minute. Vera Cruz's supporters crossed their fingers, but Sidónio Peralta was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 11 minutes into the game, Sidónio Peralta was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Vera Cruz's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Real Scali the free kick. Sidónio Peralta recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 13th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Raimundo Neto showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Sidónio Peralta in the 18th minute of the match. 19 minutes had been played when some careless play by Real Scali's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Joel Severiano was slow to take the kick. During this time Vera Cruz's players had a chance to rest. Raimundo Neto took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Sidónio Peralta, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 26th minute Sidónio Peralta shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Raimundo Neto saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Vera Cruz's António Correia proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 28th minute of the match, managed to save Vera Cruz from getting a goal against them. In the 33rd minute, Vera Cruz's Álvaro Moutinho seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Álvaro Moutinho the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Vera Cruz protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Álvaro Moutinho had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In the 33rd minute, one of Vera Cruz:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Vera Cruz. A collision led to Real Scali getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Adalberto Hermes hit a great ball. Adhemar Azevedo kicked well hit freekick during the 38th minute of the match. Sidney Figueiredo kicked well hit freekick during the 41st minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 42nd minute, Fábio Ribeiro managed to get in a good position for a shot. Vera Cruz's supporters rose to their feet, but Fábio Ribeiro was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Raimundo Neto breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. A collision led to Vera Cruz getting a freekick after 45 minutes play. Gastão Gago hit a great ball. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Adalberto Hermes to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 54th minute, Fábio Ribeiro fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. After some fancy dribbling in the 65th minute, Fábio Ribeiro managed to get in a good position for a shot. Vera Cruz's supporters rose to their feet, but Fábio Ribeiro was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Raimundo Neto breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The supporters of Real Scali booed when Vera Cruz was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 66 match minutes in a wonderful position. Donato Pedroso didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Walmyr Bastos in the 72nd minute of play forced Vera Cruz's goalkeeper António Correia to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Joel Severiano fell near the penalty area in the 86th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Vera Cruz's protests and gave Joel Severiano a yellow card for diving instead. After 86 played minutes Vera Cruz got a freekick which was hit by Joel Severiano. Nilton Nogueira's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but António Correia read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 87th minute of play. After some careless play in the Real Scali defense, Fábio Ribeiro kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Raimundo Neto. The Real Scali fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Raimundo Neto should have stopped the shot.
