Maersk Kampala's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FLAMENGO the free kick. After 16 played minutes Maersk Kampala got a freekick which was hit by Hendrik Scholten. Vítor Queirós could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 20th minute of the match, but Dennis Koopmans made a huge save. Felix Hoogenkamp scored 0-1 in the 25th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Hélder Faria, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Dennis Koopmans took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Vítor Queirós, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a rather tough play, FLAMENGO's Nicolas Barros got a free kick in the 31st minute. After having played for 32 minutes, Joep Werner managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Maersk Kampala's supporters crossed their fingers, but Joep Werner was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Dennis Koopmans showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Vítor Queirós, who was totally free with the ball in the 34th minute. Maersk Kampala's defense didn't have a chance, in the 36th minute, when Vítor Queirós scored to the left of an out of position Dennis Koopmans, making the score, 1-1. 41 minutes into the match, FLAMENGO's goal looked a bit too open when Joep Werner came free, but Hélder Faria reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience was convinced that Johan Scheepstra's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Hélder Faria was relentless in the 43rd minute of the game. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The supporters of FLAMENGO booed when Maersk Kampala was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 79 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cees Schuurman didn't get a good kick on the ball. Wesley Carvalho took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 80th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Dennis Koopmans. Maersk Kampala's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 82nd minute Rony Netto shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dennis Koopmans saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The Maersk Kampala players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
