Délio do Vale could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 18th minute of the match, but Comunardo Di Giacomo made a huge save. Luiz Fabiano Domingues struck a weak shot in the 21st minute. Comunardo Di Giacomo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Merlin. After a rather tough play, Dubai FC's Dave Scirea got a free kick in the 26th minute. In the 27th minute Délio do Vale shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Comunardo Di Giacomo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Vítor Marquez during the 28th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 29th minute, Vítor Marquez hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. A very good chance. José Romero charged in rather forcefully in the 43rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The supporters of Dubai FC booed when Merlin was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. José Romero didn't get a good kick on the ball. Merlin's Patrick Urbano played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Armando Madaio in the 44th minute of play. After 46 played minutes Merlin got a freekick which was hit by João Pedro Cearense. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Délio do Vale was the one to do the kick off. Merlin's Vítor Marquez managed, thanks to a brazen rush, stole the ball on a throw-in made by Cesare Mastrangelo in the 53 minute of the game. A collision led to Merlin getting a freekick after 56 minutes play. Ciro de Azevedo hit a great ball. The audience was convinced that Armando Madaio's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Patrick Urbano was relentless in the 68th minute of the game. Dubai FC's Comunardo Di Giacomo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Délio do Vale in the 70th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Dubai FC's Ferdinando Fantozzi got a free kick in the 78th minute. The audience held their breath when Délio do Vale in the 81st minute of the game managed to trick the opponents defenses and fired away a shot outside the goal on the Comunardo Di Giacomo's left hand side. After having played for 83 minutes, Luiz Fabiano Domingues managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Merlin's supporters crossed their fingers, but Luiz Fabiano Domingues was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Comunardo Di Giacomo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Délio do Vale, who was totally free with the ball in the 95th minute. Armando Riccitelli kicked well hit freekick during the 96th minute of the match.
