But to his dismay, Beppe Silveri quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. Burundi's Felice Del Greco played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ruperto Evarado in the 10th minute of play. The audience was convinced that Arturo Trentini's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Vicente Ur was relentless in the 13th minute of the game. A collision led to Burundi getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Ernesto Bergamini hit a great ball. If Amerigo Del Grosso had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Vicente Ur made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ernesto Bergamini in the 42nd minute of play. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-1 at half-time.

There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Burundi fully deserved thier win.
